Paula Abdul Returns to TV With New Show 'Got To Dance'

Former American Idol judge Paula Abdul has finally revealed that her return to primetime television will be as lead judge, executive producer and mentor on the new CBS dance show Got To Dance. The show, another U.K. reality competition import, is described as the first "all-ages, all-genres dance series — from ballroom to break dance, bhangra to ballet, and tap to tango," according to the Hollywood Reporter . Like Abdul's previous show American Idol, contestants will perform in front of a group of judges, with viewers casting their votes for their favorite contestants.

Since splitting from Idol over a contract dispute before this season, Abdul was rumored to be courted by all the major networks, including Fox, which had hoped to reunite Abdul with her old Idol sparring mate Simon Cowell for his upcoming U.S. version of The X Factor. Abdul had also reportedly received offers from Dancing With the Stars, which has surpassed Idol's ratings since Abdul's exit, as well as a rumored Star Search reboot. However, it was Got to Dance, which will cast Abdul in a multi-faceted role both in front of the camera and behind the scenes, that finally got the in-demand Abdul to sign up.

Before getting to work on Got To Dance, Abdul will reportedly make an Idol appearance during this season's finale episode in a goodbye segment to Cowell, People reports. As Rolling Stone previously reported, this will be Cowell's last season as judge on Idol before he makes the jump to X Factor in 2011.
