Straight Up! for Africa

Jul 15th, 2023

ACCF Ambassador and global icon, Paula Abdul, have launched the ‘Straight Up! for Africa’ campaign. This effort seeks to raise awareness and funds to help empower women and girls to thrive in their communities and protect African wildlife, contributing to a sustainable environment, forever.

As a new ACCF Ambassador, Paula will travel to Africa in the Fall to witness the work of ACCF first-hand. She will use her extraordinary skills as a dancer and choreographer to unite and showcase cultures and meet with local women and young adults who will share their native dances with Paula. In return, the world-famous choreographer will teach them an original dance to celebrate them.

“It is an honor to expand my role supporting ACCF’s mission and work as their Goodwill Ambassador to Africa.  I love the organization’s holistic approach to protecting human life, wildlife, and the environment. I’m especially excited to be a voice for women’s and girl’s empowerment in Africa as it can be a difficult place for girls to grow up and thrive. ACCF supports programs that provide access to scholarships, menstrual hygiene products, and mentoring for girls, and carries on the fight to ban female mutilation.” - Paula Abdul

ACCF couldn’t be more excited to have Paula’s energy to uplift community outreach, economic, and educational programs in Tanzania (Grumeti Fund Project), Rwanda (Project in Volcanoes National Park), Mozambique (Karingani Project), and Zimbabwe (The Malilangwe Trust Project).

The world can follow Paula's journey to Africa and see the dances by using #StraightUpForAfrica on social media. Paula and ACCF will post videos of Paula along with celebrities and sports figures joining the "flash mob" effort on Tik Tok, Facebook, and Instagram allowing everyone to see unique forms of expression and dance from African villages.
