Paula Abdul fought for a role in Kevin Costner's classic baseball movie Bull Durham in a bid to jump-start her singing career.
The former professional cheerleader was hired by producers in 1988 to choreograph a dance scene for Oscar winner Tim Robbins but when Abdul arrived on set, she approached director Ron Shelton about picking up an on-screen role.
However Shelton shut down the Straight Up hitmaker's request, insisting the future Grammy winner, who had yet to release her debut album, was still largely an unknown - but Abdul didn't take the blow too easily.
Shelton tells Sports Illustrated magazine, "I'd never heard of her. But she came up to me and asked, 'What part do you have for me?' I told her, 'I'm sorry,' and she marched off screaming."
