Paula Abdul caught up with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the red carpet at the 2019 American Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 24), chatting about her Las Vegas residency and reflecting upon the very first time she saw her name on the Billboard charts.

Speaking of her Forever Your Girl residency at Flamingo Las Vegas, Abdul tells Billboard that the experience has been one of the biggest highlights of her career.

“I'm having a blast,” she shares. “The crowds that come to the show, they leave with the biggest smile on their face, and that's very rewarding for me…it's been amazing. I have so much fun. I have such an incredible group of talented people working with me. My dancers are, like, awe-inspiring. And it's just been a blast. So far, it's been incredible.”

Asked what her most memorable Billboard moment has been, Abdul recalls the first time she appeared on the charts. “My mother, she would buy every Billboard magazine, and she would say, 'Honey, you're 96 with a bullet,'” she says.

“And then she was like, ‘No. 1 again for the sixth week.’ She was already over it,” Abdul adds with a laugh. “No, but she was my biggest, biggest fan. I lost both of my parents this past year and a half, but I feel their presence every day and I know that they're smiling.”
