Paula Abdul kept 8,500 fans spellbound through 12 songs, nine costume changes and with a myriad of moving stages and oddly dressed dancers during her performance at the Allentown Fairgrounds last night.
Showing no signs of an injured knee suffered earlier during her Under My Spell tour and only slight traces of a weak voice which forced the cancellation of a concert earlier this week, Abdul kept the audience entranced with her patented, choreographed, made for MTV pop/dance numbers as well as her trademark smile, guile and charm.
She began the event singing the title song to her recent hit album "Spellbound" by being pulled from beneath the stage to the top of the stage by wires that would later be used to awe-inspiringly twirl her dancers during "Kisses In The Wind."
The perky former Laker girl, backed by a trio of video screens showing both recorded and live tape, captivated the audience with all her popular numbers -- from the smashes "Straight Up," "Cold Hearted Snake," "The Way That You Love Me" and "Opposites Attract," from her superiorly successful debut to "Vibeology," and "Rush, Rush" from her latest effort.
Abdul, sometimes overshadowed on stage by her eight back-up dancers or overshadowed on the mike by her two back-up singers, proved to be a versatile and professional performer.
The four-man group Color Me Badd worked the predominately teenage/young adult audience into a frenzy by opening with an energetic nine-song performance.
The foursome's trademark is their harmonizing vocals, and they did not disappoint. From the already popular "I Adore, Me Amore" and "I Wanna Sex You Up" to the snappy "All For Love" and "All Night," CMB bopped its way across the stage and further into the locals' hearts.
