Pop star Paula Abdul spoke with Denis Walter this afternoon.
Abdul, who is in Australia as a new judge on Channel Ten’s So You Think You Can Dance, said her journey to stardom was not an easy road.
“This business is not for the weak, the entertainment business is very competitive especially for dancers, it’s not the longest career,” she said.
“So you want to get as much in as possible and you want your career to really flourish.”
The American singer, dancer and choreographer said her best advice came from her father.
“My father taught me at a very early age and I didn’t understand it then, and once I did understand it, it never stopped me, he said ‘listen honey, no is the beginning of a negotiation’,” she said.
“And I took that to heart and I never let (rejection) stop me.
“It’s that good old fashioned rolling your sleeves up and doing the work … I worked hard, I did, but I love it, I love this business and I’m very grateful.”
